I was born in 1952 in a small village in the beautiful Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. At the age of 7, I started coarse fishing for trout in the small stream that crossed our village. Over the years, I gained more and more knowledge about techniques and tactics. About 30 years ago, I learned fly fishing and fly tying and soon took part in national and international fly fishing competitions.
I was captain of the Luxembourg Fly Fishing Team during the European Fly Fishing Championships 2003 (Islay-Scotland) and the World Championships 2004 (Liptovsky Mikulas-Slovakia).
After retiring from competition fishing and my regular job as an automotive engineer, I invested all my new free time in fly fishing, fly tying and my fly tying web site (http://www.meckejang.lu/). My favorite target fish here in Luxembourg are grayling, barbel and trout (all C & R). For 17 years I am a passionate salmon fisherman and spend several weeks a year trying to catch this mystical fish with sometimes more, sometimes less success.
My fly tying career started about 30 years ago and, thanks to my good teachers, I had reached an acceptable level after a short while. For 20 years now I'm giving myself tying courses in Luxembourg, Belgium, Germany and Ireland. I am invited regularly to tying demonstrations at home and abroad. 2 years ago I got the order to tie salmon flies to fill a fly box for Prince Charles.
In 2013, I released my first fly tying book for beginners. This book is now available in 3 languages (English, German and French) via Amazon or directly from me.
I am honored to be at the EWF 2019 and would be happy to welcome you here, exchange experiences or just chat.
