|André Miegies 51 years old and lives together with his lovely wife Wilma and dog Dexter in a small town called Soest, situated in the center of Holland, close to large rivers and lakes. For André fishing is a way of life and for the last 30 years he has fished only with a fly rod. Because the Netherlands has no rivers with salmon and trout he has fished there for pike, perch, bream, roach, ide, and rudd. Outside of the Netherlands, he fishes mostly for grayling and trout and every year he visits the Scandinavian countries for a holiday and some fishing. He has also fished in Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, and Scotland and he hopes to expand the list in the future.||
Fly tying is for him even more important than fishing. Working with different kinds of materials and creating something you can fool a fish with feels great!! He does not have a certain style, he actually ties everything from classic salmon flies to pike flies and everything in between. André Miegies is best known in the Netherlands for his perch flies and the presentations he gives on this subject at fly shops, fishing shows and fly fishing clubs. With his flies André catches many large perch (of over 40 centimeters in length) in the winter months. He has even caught a few perch over the magical mark of 50 centimeters in the Netherlands.
André also produces special needles and brushes for fly-tying and he will make a few especially for the auction at the EWF for the children’s hospital in Munich.
