Bauletto tondo bag | 20 Years Ago, I Got My First Designer Bag

And it's one of two bags I'll never sell...

Way back in the early 2000s, the Dior Saddle Bag was everywhere. The year was 2003; it was the summer before my 8th-grade year when I decided I would do anything to have one.

I begged and pleaded with my mom, and when that wasn’t enough, I decided I would save every penny I made as an assistant counselor for a summer day camp.

VETEMENTS MEN BAGS BRIEFCASES Backpack PIKOLINOS WHA-726 Cognac. Beloved then (and again now) for its Dior Oblique Monogram print and ornate gold ‘CD’ hardware, but saving up more than a few hundred dollars wasn’t possible. So, instead, I settled on the mini version, a Dior Diorissimo Saddle Pochette.

As the year came to a close, it was time, and my mom drove me to the Dior Boutique near our house. I walked in with a mouth full of braces hidden behind my awkward but excited smile with $350 plus tax in hand.

Out, I walked with my first-ever designer bag, and the rest, you could say, is history.

Two Decades Later

That first bag, along with my second designer bag, my Louis Vuitton Speedy 25, are the two bags I will never let go of. At one point, I thought I would never sell any of my bags, but my outlook has certainly evolved (thankfully), and in the last two decades, many other bags have come and gone.

My collection consists of 14 bags, some of which were sold and others traded, as I’ve parted ways with 12 other bags over the years. My sense of style has grown and evolved over the years (of course), and it’s fun to look back on all the bags I’ve loved and lost.

There was a time when I only wanted to purchase Louis Vuitton bags, and then, there was a period of wanting to own a bag from every major luxury brand.

Who can forget my Sienna Miller-inspired BoHo phase (RIP to the 3 Chloé bags I sold)?

These days, I’ve Cruise a peaceful place where I buy what speaks to me, my sense of style, and what works for me despite all of the “noise.” If it happens to read like a classic, great; if not, that’s fine, too. Our bags are just bags, but they are meant to spark joy and make us happy.

Looking back at that very first bag or pulling out the Speedy Bag my parents gifted me for my graduation from high school for the first time in years does just that.

My first bag was a Gucci bag, but a close friend of mine really wanted it, so I don’t have it anymore.

The bags I will never part with are the ones with sentimental value, like my Prada duffel bag, which was a gift, and some heirloom ones.

I purchased my first bag, a Gucci Boston bag, when I was 18. I’m 56, and I still have that bag in the dust bag that came with it. It’s been through a lot over the years, and I don’t wear it often anymore. But when I do, I absolutely love it; I always remember the feeling of when I first purchased it.

My first bag was a LV flap bag, followed by a Bottega Venetta (old). I will never sell these and I still use them. It’s what started my collection and mean the most to me.

My first bag was the Louis Vuitton Ellipse Back pack and my second was the Speedy 30 in epi leather black. I fell in love after watching Knotting Hill.

I still have mine, but I’m not sure it’s considered a bag. It’s a Louis Vuitton Pouchettte Accesoires (sp?). I still have it and use it. After asking about the price of a secondhand one ($950) I’m going to keep using mine.

That was mine too! I still have it and use it as a pouch in my bags, but occasionally attach a loop or long chain to her to wear out. The price of one now on the resale market floors me! I think I got mine for $250.

My first designer bag was a burberry bucket bag in the signature brown checkered canvas. It started as a joke. I told my mom why dont you get me the cheapest bag in the store (we were there to buy a polo as a bday gift my grandpa it was his favorite brand). My mom did not buy the cheapest one it was second to the cheapest in the store. Maybe it was her way of getting me a sort of goin away to college present. 18yrs later i still kept it in barely used condition. No plans to sell it ever. Plus i have a matching dress to go with it. I sold 15 bags already since the pandemic but i still kept 6vintage ones (gg canvas lv and coach) mixing amongst my chanels and b35 and k32 but im very happy at the moment with my current collection of 28 designer bags and have no plans to sell another one soon.

I bought my first designer bag as a gift to myself after graduating nursing school. LV alma bb, I wanted a straight up classic bag in a small size with a strap. I’m a sucker for straps, also with having kids it’s a must. I don’t think I will ever sell her, she started this journey and she’s a little gem.
